Our cookies baking mission for Eid 2013..

You'olls perasan tak iklan Planta kat tv sempena Ramadhan and raya tahun ni? Tag line "Seikhlas Kasih Ibu,  Setulus Sentuhan Planta" tu..Ada sekali tu, Adam datang kat I, sebab lepas tengok iklan tu la, requested me to bake cake and cookies for him. Alolo siannya. Memang I tak pernah baking kat rumah, sb peralatan takde, mommy takde oven nak..huhuhu. *pastu mommy tengah menabung nak beli my dream mixer kitchenaid tu, yg belang comel betul lah kahkah* But I promised him, we will do baking together at Omma house k. Selalunya bila balik raya, kalau sempat mmg I buat cookies lah at my parents house. Senang semua complete. Mmg fun kalau dapat buat cookies for raya, selalu tolong my mom buat biskut raya since kecil. I know the enjoyment to bake with my mom, so I would love to share experience with my kiddos too. *although dah dapat rase macamane haru nye bila nak siapkan cookies with small kids hihihi*

Tak sangka, a week before we all balik Terengganu, dapat invitation for Bengkel Amal Kuih Raya dengan Planta kat Mydin Mall USJ. Happy sgt. There were few more bloggers with their kids as well, were invited to make cookies to distribute for anak yatim at Rumah Anak-anak Yatim Al- Nasuha. It was a fun event indeed, sambil buat amal *walaupun tak seberapa* and paling penting dpt baking with my kids! Tercapai cita2 Adam..

Baby food preparation when travelling with baby..

I've been planning to write this entry about a month ago, glad that I found the pictures were already in the picture folder. Just to share some simple tips and ideas for those mommies who planning for travelling yet to maintain enough stock of baby home made food. This is my first time too. I never had chance to travel during Adam time except going back to my hometown, which I nearly bring all those stock of foods for a week, or I just go back empty handed and cook at my parents' house. Both options are ok for me. These experiences I had during my Awana Kijal trip which took about 3-4 hours driving while Langkawi trip by air which took almost 5-6 hours journey to reach our check in place.

The longest trip that I had was 4 days and 3 nights trip. Normally Ryan took 3 times meals - breakfast, lunch and dinner. And breastfeeding in between. Owh btw, I did not bring any ebm stocks as I was direct feeding him for most of the trips we went. So I have save some space for ebm and milk bottle weeee ;) I tried to prepare food which suitable to be take for breakfast and dinner. So I can save up some space there too. With many activities around, it easy to feed with minimal variant of foods, aight!. Lunch as usual, I prepared frozen fish/chicken porridge, kept in the suitable jars.

The instant baby oat and multi grain meal for breakfast or dinner..
Grain meal which consist of several types of rice, enough to make the baby full and happy..hehehe...

Frozen fruits to be take with oat or grain meals..
Since sometimes I fed him between meals, so for the trips, I've combined pumpkins to apple and apricot puree...*kenyanglah sket kan* You may also replace the pumpkins with sweet potatoes as well!

Transfer to the big containers..aka tupperware..
During trip to Awana Kijal, I don't really mind about the space since I was travelling by car..
As far as everything is there, I'm ok for that..

But during my Langkawi trip, I have to minmize the luggage..
So, I only brought few important things and minimized the packing as much as I can..

8 oz Avent containers for the grain meals, Thermos for the heat up porridge, Avent milk powder dispenser for the baby oat. Sipping cup and Allenhand thermal bag to put the heat up fruits puree during outing.

Avent milk powder dispenser for 3 portions of instant baby oat..

For Langkawi trip, I replaced the big container with ebm storage bag to keep the frozen fruit purees..
And the frozen porridge in the Avent via cup.

You might ask for how long the frozen purees and porridge can long last, rite?Yup, besides the proper packing, the frozen purees and porridge were placed in the cooler bag with small ice pack too. So, I don't  have problem during travelling to Terengganu. The cubes still maintain the good shapes and the porridge still froze well. So when I reached hotel, immediately transferred to the minibar, with some of the jars in the normal rack while those to be consume on the following days were placed in the freezer. This is so important, to ensure the re-heat process become shorter and more easier.

For Langkawi trip, since we have packing everything so early to catch the flight, reached the airport straight away had dinner, we reached the homestay around 10pm. Everything still in good condition since the cooler bag still cool inside, only the fruit purees started to melt. Its ok, in fact its easier for me to re-heat the next day =) At first I was a little bit worried too, if the immigration not allow to bring the ice pack and all the baby foods stuff. Syukur, they don't even bother. You can read here to get info when flying with babies.

During most of the stay, except the stay at homestay (in Langkawi), I have kitchen to re-heat on the stove with boiling water *the good things about homestay actually*, so most of the time I re-heat the foods with normal steps, boiled up the water, thawed in the bowl for several times until the foods are warmed enough and transferred in the thermos  and thermal bag for outing. *ada cara tak bagus, I put the container in the boiling heater, hahahaha, sungguh kejam, tapi cepat!*

Well, I think I have wrote most of the experiences I had, will keep it update if I find out any items that I miss. Btw, you are welcome to share your brilliant ideas that u might used during your travelling, InsyaAllah we can get benefit from that too. This is a good article about homemade baby food and travelling can be used as reference for mommies out there!Check it outtt!!!

Last but not least, baby kenyang = happy..travelling pun tenang, betul tak?? =)

"Betul mommy!!"

His new flavors..

Alhamdulillah, entering his 1 year age, Ryan has started to taste many new flavours. Lagipun, dah tak risau sangat nak bagi dia makan, so far tak de menunjukkan sebarang negative reactions. Hopefully, lepas ni mommy dia plak lah lagi rajin memerah idea nak improve variety in his daily meals..:) Antara new taste yang I dah bagi kat Ryan such;

Fusilli pasta during his 1st birthday..

Takdelah bagi seketul2 macam ni..
Blend to very fine texture..

Then served with sauce contain of tomato + carrot + apple + simple chicken soup (thinning the sauce)
Topping : prune + dried cranberries

Desserts plak..

Natural yoghurt with fruits purées (apple + pear + dried apricot)
Topping : prune + dried cranberries

Results : menjilat jari *tipulah..makan dengan sudu*

Some of the new baby foods from organic store from last weekend shopp'

Instant oat for breakfast with fruit purées..
Still same, cuma every week tu try different combination of fruits..
Takut boring nanti..

Yang ni baru try this week..

Multi grain meal..
Combination of few types of grain and wheat..

Very nice texture. Just campur air panas macam instant oat. Texture lepas campur air sangat fine. I gave with fruit purees. Bau wheat dia agak kuat, so I added more purees to hide the actual taste. Mujur Ryan ok with that..

And last sekali, for his lunch, I dah start bagi bubur sup ayam..Alhamdulillah..semalam caregiver dia msg, tanya bagi apa, sebab bau lain and Ryan makan banyak..Tapi tak heran, Ryan ni memang enjoy eating..;)

Sama je macam sup ayam yang biasa. Cuma I masak lama..supaya air tulang ayam semua tu kuar. Its good for baby who had flu and good to boost their immune system too. Sekarang ni, plan nak pinjam MIL punya slow cooker nak buat stock ayam..Sangat inspired by Mommy Dina's recipe on chic stock..Read here. After a while, remove all those veg and chicken, blended it well. Sup dia plak, sebahgian letak time blend, sebahagian buat masak bubur..Take note, I should steam the veg, masak lama2 hilang  khasiat. Hoho..

For bubur, I dah start tak blend to fine texture..
So he can enjoy chewing with his 4 batang gigi kapak tu..
hehehe ;)

I enjoyed reading blogs with many updates of home made baby food lately. And started to get some ideas in improving storage of my baby food. Almaklumlah, kalau 7 meal for bfast purees, 7 meals of lunch and 7 meals of dinner, adoii penuh freezer takde space. Good ideas to make them in ice cube..super like this idea..

Beli kat mane??
Giant..RM5 tak silap..for 2..
Murah!!

Storage purees lebih kurang 2 oz every section tu..

After 1 night, removed to bekas like this..

And I have this type of storage too..
Super convenient, taip mahal sket la..
;)

That's all...

Kids eating habit..

To be truth, I'm not yet a strict follow all the rules type of parent. Specially when talk about food and eating habit. As long as we know the food is safe for kids, I'm ok with that. As I always said, having a  husband yang jenis control in term of nak bagi makan kat baby or toddlers *in other word = cerewet >.<* , I need to be very aware about their food intake. Such ensure makanan tak besar sgt, senang nak kunyah, for him, jangan sampai choking sudah. Should monitor them closely while the kids having their meals. Combination of that, ramai yang anggap macam kami control gila about what they eat.

For me is easy. Untuk baby I memang very strict sket sb diorang still kecil and new food yang masuk semua belum tahu ok tak for them. Buat kena allergic, kami jugak yang susah. The 1st 6 months, mmg fully breastfeed. So, no need to worry about solid food bagai*even sometimes my in law try to feed them with food, sb kata 4mos dah starts makan, hohoho* Tapi bila dah start solid food, sometimes susah sgt nak control persekitaran. People who dealing with our kids. Sometimes they felt kitorang kejam sb tak bagi makan benda yg best untuk anak kami. woohooo..*salmon ingat tak best ke* I have my own guideline. Semua supaya tak menyusahkan kami dikemudian hari. Nanti sakit perut ke ape, kami jugak kena amik cuti kan. To be safe, selagi I boleh provide them a healthy food, InsyaAllah. Kalau nak bagi takde hal, but ensure when I gv greenlite. Kalau ok, maksudnye he's ok with that food la tu, atau sebelum ni I dah pernah bagi. There's one time when someone has tried to gv Ryan ice cream. Bagi hujung sudu bagi dia taste sket, pernah lah I buat, ni kalau dah sudu macam suap bubur. Adoiilah. Dah cakap tak boleh, kata bila lagik dia nak try. Lucky nothing happened. Nak ditegur, sebab respect. How to deal with that!!Stressed tau.

Alhamdulillah, Adam show a good sign of eating habit. He was free from all the junk food sort of cekedis and sweets bagai. Mungkin hasil daripada mommy and papa yang control dia makan dari kecik lagik. Even sometimes, kalau pergi mana2 ada je nak ajar dia makan sweet, beli ntah pape makanan tu kan, I risau sebab dia tak reti makan. Gula2 sumpah dia tak reti makan. Pernah sekali dia nak telan macam tu je. Kat nursery I dah pesan dia tak boleh makan sort of things like that. And they followed. But still when time b'day kat nursery tu, macam2 collection junk food dapat. Mujur dia tak berapa minat. "tak boleh makan, nanti gigi rosak"..good boy Adam. Tapi tak paham, nape lah nak bagi goodie bag benda junk food gitu. Aiyarkk!!

Junk foods yg sebahagian dah selamat dimakan mommy atau Che Mimi...
Hasil kutipan goodie bag from Adam's nursery...

Boleh makan, kadang2 tu bagi jugak. Ais krim once a week ke. Choc pun once in a blue moon hahhaha. Budak kecik ni, benda high sugar, nanti karang hyper jadiknye. Specially bila dah malam, kalau rase nak tengok anak2 hyperactive tak nak tido malam, cuba bagi choc cadbury sket..memang sampai tengah malam lah duk lompat2 atas tilam tu karang..

Apapun, tengahari ni saje nak mengomel. The best way to teach kid to eat well, we shud start from young. But we need to get full support from our close family. Hubby is the best person to give red signal when something not rite. =)

Cau cin cau..

Weaning at 10 months..

Sangat excited lately ni nak update entry about project homemade baby food.. Sekarang ni kawan di alam maya, banyak upload story pasal weaning. 1001 recipes for home made baby food. So boleh lah ambil idea improve mana yang patut. Tukang masak berjaya macam I ni *wink wink*, pening jugak nak mix and match makanan si Ryan ni.

Alhamdulillah, early of February, Adryan dah masuk 10 months. And it just suitable time to introduce him for fish!!I prefer to give him salmon. Same like her big brother dulu. Bukan ape, ikan lain yang white meat tu, kadang bau hanyir susah nak hilang. Lagipun, selain hi in protein n Omega3, salmon ni buat bubur jadik naturally sweet. *Padahal mak dia yang suka salmon, tiba2 ter'display ' gambar salmon IKEA and Manhanttan Fish depan mata. Haishhh!!* And during his 9 months, I've introduced Ryan with quinoa too. So far, Adryan ni memang lepas all that 4 days rule. Lagipun quinoa ni macam rice je. Takdelah nak allergy sgt. Salmon pun lepas aje si budak tembam tu.

The Oragnic Quinoa.

Sebelum masak..

Macam masak nasi..taraa...
Hasilnye..best jugak dimakan..
*tapi Ryan still kena blend dulu*

My new fave spot to shop for groceries now is Jaya Grocers at Empire. *Mostly beli stuff nak buat homemade food pun* After abis class Adam kat Kizsport, alang2 teruslah beli kat sana.Lama2 terus jatuh cinta. They have many choice of  imported fruits like avocados *murah dr CS*, peach, plum, strawberries  as well as locals too. Plus veggies and salmon fillet yang fresh. Price memang reasonable. Dulu, I prefer to shop at Jusco, tapi lately bila pergi ada je yang takde. Boring. Same goes to Giant and Tesco, lagilah. Nak kena round 2,3 tempat baru complete. Cold Storage pun lately ni asyik takde je specially kat Sbg Parade. Sometimes, I received visitors who googled for my blog looking for dried dates and longan. Readers, Jaya Grocers is the right place for you to find for dried stuff. Memang best. Dia dah packing2 siap semuanye. So girls, sila berkunjung ke Jaya Grocers sekarang *free ads >.<*

Ok, back to Ryan's homemade food at 10 months.

For his breakfast..

Fruits purees + organic oat

Frozen fruit purées, morning mix up with oat for his bekal to nursery..

Lunch time..

Its a salmon porridge..
Basicly, its a complete meals of salmon (protein) + veg (brocolli, zuchinni, celery or bayam) + dried fuits (date, cranberries, raisin or apricot)  + organics porridge

Steam all those above ingredients for  15 - 20 min..and blend to suitable texture (follow ur children's age)
For Ryan, I still blend it to fine texture..

And mix with the blended porridge ..

And freeze for 1 week stock..

And for his dinner meals..

Quinoa (as above picture) + fruits/veg purées (normally its pumpkin or carrot or few types of fruits) + prune

Done!!
*Nak kena beli storage kecik sket, makan space!!*

Now, I need to spare some finger foods for him..
Especially during steaming food for his dinner or makan kat luar, kalau tak menjerit lah dia tak bagi makan..

Must be organic or sugar free and not a junk food..
Lately prefer to give him finger fruits..

Last time, used to be a place for frozen ebm, but now..

Yes, he is a happy eater!!
