Hi everyone..

It's been a while since my last update on Adam's reading progress. Sorry again for the delay in updating the progress. But Alhamdulillah, last year we managed to finish lesson plan on Adam's reading activity. So for this year target, I'll more focus on his phonics - words building and segmenting. Will share it soon. Owh its including reading in Malay as well. We already started on Siri Bacalah Anakku too.

Speaking of P&J series, I've received few comments and requests from my blogger friends and friends to have these old but effective series to our humble shop as well. *and I pun tak sangka my entry on P&J previously get lots of reviews* Alhamdulillah, Allah has made a smooth journey for us to be reseller for these series.

A lil bit introduction for those who not familiar with this series..

Peter & Jane Series which has been more than 70 years in the market have been using by all parents around the world to help on reading. 

We can start to use this book (the first serie) to as early as 2 years old toddlers.

Yup, the are more on sight reading in the beginning..

But after few series and your kids already started kindy (and learned phonics), this book are helping alot on improving the sight words (list of words yg tak boleh di eja menggunakan konsep phonics).

Overall Peter and Jane Series are from Serie 1 until Serie 12.

Each serie with 3 level a, b and c.

[Reading 4 Beginners] : Adam's reading progress..

Fuh dah lamanye tak update progress reading Adam Mikael..

Bila nak cari gambar  balik, mak aii bnyk lah plak..

Actually I did regularly updated instagram, since that the easiest way to upload and put caption..

Still, as I really wanted to monitor and captured all memories of his reading progress..

Ok, kuatkan semangat!!Sorry, it will be a long entry with load of peektures!!

Based on my original lesson plan, the first stage of Adam's reading lesson at home is to get to know the phonics. Alhamdulillah, skrang dia dah hafal semua sounding A to Z..

In fact kalau tny mane2 huruf pun, dia dah boleh sebut fluently with sounds..

Glad to hear the aunty at school pun surprise on Adam's progress on that..

 Adam dah settle phonetics and now dah moved to next stage of spelling..

And for me, as I used Starfall website more in helping him to read, bila dah habis Stage 1, moved to Stage 2, agak sukar jugak, sb mommy pun tak berapa nak reti..dulu sekolah2 mana belajar kan..

And now, as u read my earlier entry on reading progress, I prefer on sight reading method now..

Yes, Alhamdulillah, he showed a lot of improvements.

I'm so happy! In fact, mommy makin rancak shopping buku anak.

Every night Adam normally spent 15-20 minutes on reading..

Sekarang dia at book 2b Peter and Jane..

When  I started on P&J book 2..

2a followed with 2b, makin bnyk new words they introduced..

So satu malam tu tak dan lah nak abis satu buku kan..

So, what I did, I start on Ladybirds Read It Yourself..

Honestly both of us like these books so much..

Yeap, it became our bedtime story books now..

Simple and within 10 minutes dah abis..*tu pun sb bnyk dialog session in between*

Read It Yourself  by Ladybirds ni ada 4 levels..

Surprisingly, level 1 & 2, which mmg simple pun actually..

Adam dah boleh baca sendiri..so proud of you boy..

This book good to improve more on reading skill for early readers..

Naikkan semangat diorang nak membaca..

And further, tales story kan, mmg interesting!

Level 1 read It Yourself..

Level 2 read It Yourself..

Level 3 read It Yourself..

And I pun start using Paul and Mary too..

Just to add some variants of characters..

Asyik P&J je kan..

So after level 2, I started to use this Book 1 & 2..

Lepas dah abis baru start on P&J book 2b plak..

Book 1 Paul and Mary..

Book2 Paul and Mary..

I did bought Usborne collection too..

Sebab gambar dia menarik..

And cara baca dia pun interesting..

Adam loves this too..

Every set of P&J, book c normally for writing practice..

Interesting..

But I normally did on weekend..

And used P&J flashcards to help..

Other than can help him to recognize the word, learn to make proper sentence too..

Sekarang hobby baru mommy Adam adalah beli buku kanak2..

Its fun thing you know..hahaha..

Hopefully we managed to start on P&J book 3 soon..

[Reading 4 Beginners] : Let's sing alphabet sounds with Adam Mikael..

Before start daily reading activity at night , Adam normally will sing along with Barbara Milne Alphabet Sounds video from you tube *as well as the one given by mama ct*

Well, I found it as a good way to help him to memorize the letter sounds using this video..

Alhamdulillah, after 2 weeks of 15 min activities, sometimes dalam kereta after picked up from school pun boleh dengar dia nyanyi sorang2. 

Best part, Ryan pun dah lekat sama. Tapi main hentam je lah..

Apple apple b b b, baby baby b b b..*sb case dia ingat sounds b b b saje*

You're so funneh lah bambam *aumm*

Well, good job Adam. Mommy is so proud of u..

[Reading 4 Beginners] : On Reading Key Words with Peter & Jane Book

Few weeks back, we went to MPH for art & stuffs thingy. Dah lama tak beli barang2 art & stuffs for Adam & Ryan.So bila smp MPH, saje pergi cari Peter & Jane books skali. Actually this is one of the series suggested  for preschooler when they started to read. So of course Adam baru je starts on phonics, takkan dah nak bagi read book kan. Nonsense. That was the word on my mind at that time. Tapi tiba2 datang keinginan yg kuat sgt suruh beli that books after dah belek few books from Peter and Jane series. Dalam hati, beli jelah kan. Bukan salah pun.

Tapi terus beli 1 set contains of 6 books..

So when I started to introduce Adam to this book, he so interested and insisted to explore the book.

So, I took the 1a book and let him to explore and read.

There were 16 words only inside the 1a book, and it just repeat the same words dalam masa yg sama slowly introduced new words from each page.

Alhamdulillah, he started to read now by using the sight reading method. 

Walaupun sebenarnya dia just recognize and memorize the words, tapi for kids, its such amazing thing when he able to finish every page by themselves. It really motivate him to  read more. Adam was so happy everytime I praised him when he finished each page and sentence. "MasyaAllah..such a great boy"

When I went through a blog who talked about the tips on introducing Peter & Jane book, the writer did explained clearly on how to start using this book. They also give few words which kids just need to recognize and memorize. So, I helped Adam to remember by sticking the words everywhere at the house too! Do visit this link for more tips!!

As of now, Adam still continue learning phonics through Starfall.com. Alhamdulillah, now Adam dah ingat 26 letter sounds *walaupun still not yet fluent* But yet I'm so impressed. Tak sangka dalam main2, with 15-30mins activities daily, dia dah start hafal. And we already finished the first level of learning the sounds and now moving to second level to blend the words (3 letter words) *mak aii, mommy tgk pun hampir pitam, camano* But for Peter & Jane book ni, we make a routine to read 10mins before sleep and during weekends. Alhamdulilah, he now at book 1b (orange book). I tried not to stick to one book too long, although ada few words dia tak ingat lagik. Takut dia cepat boring. So after a week, we already at orange book. Each book dia ada target to achieve, like for 2nd book ni dia bnyk repetitions and ayat2 dia dah start tukar2 sket. So not to worry. Mama Ct pun dah bagi green light, she said I'm still on track yaw. =)

I tried to record videos when he read book, well not easy man..!!

So, enjoy the vids walaupun senget benget mommy silap setting, but this as memory for him bila dah besar..

Proof that u have started to read at 4years and 5months old darling.

[Reading 4 Beginners] : On reading methods

Alhamdulillah, rase bersyukur sgt akhirnya dah faham sedikit sebanyak pasal method to teach my kids to read. Hasil menuntut ilmu dengan mama ct kat early edu kids seminar hari tu lah. Kalau dulu, seriously tak tahu macamana nak start. Google pun macam2 keluar, alih pening sorang2. Rase rugi sgt sb macam lewat introduce this to Adam. Walaupun minat dekat buku tu  Alhamdulillah dari kecil dah disemai, tapi enjoyment tak sampai tahap dia boleh enjoy baca buku sendiri. Nevermind, better late  than never aight!! 

So one of the important thing yg mama ct share masa seminar aritu, antaranya kenalpasti method yang kita nak pakai. Actually kat sini most difficult part *for me lah kut* Sebab kita pun tak pasti apa method yg ada sebenarnya. Now bila dah faham, dah tahu, even skrang dah boleh plan yg mana sesuai untuk anak-anak saya. Tq so much Ct!!

So there are 2 main methods yg commonly used which are phonics and sight reading. So now, I’ve been using both method for my 2 kids, Adam and Ryan. Of course for Ryan I used sight reading, while Adam I started with sight reading as well. But looking at him yg dah besar, and video yg I yg I introduce tu kurang menarik minat dia, so now I more focus on phonics method. Lagipun dekat school, he’s currently learning phonics method too – the Montessori reading method (they are using flash cards and Adam pun balik nyanyi sounds jugak), so I decided to just continue whatever he has started at school. 

So, this basically what I did now..

I have set my own target to help Adam to able to read by end of this year. I made a milestone chart for me to track the milestone while planning the steps by steps in reading. Alhamdulillah, every night after solat Isya’ we will have activity at least 15 min per day (but mostly sb dia excited selalunya sampai 9.30pm – 10pm jugaklah). While Ryan plak, suka hati dia je kadang dia ikut kadang tak. But seriously after 2,3 kali tengok My Baby Can Read video, he started to recognize few words like clap, wave, toes etc..Alhamdulillah. 

Adam currently using Starfall.com to help him to learn phonics.

If u see the picture, there 4 stages kids need to go through before they able to start to read.

This is the first level - Let's get ready to read.

For me this is the most important stage. Adam needs to familiar and memorize all the 26 sounds and the characters inside each alphabet as it will keep on repeating at the other stages.

I try as much not to stress up Adam to finish up each level accordingly. Instead try to make learning more fun. Nanti every night bila nak ajak belajar pun dia happy and volunteer himself. Learning should be fun!

*although mommy pun tired, just spend least at15 min per day!*

Each alphabet, Starfall.com ada provide activity nak recall and memorize the sounds  through coloring and writing activity. So, I normally suruh Adam buat 3 alphabet je and then we do activity.

Alhamdulillah, improve his coloring skill as well..

  So every night before start learning phonics at website, we normally will sing this alphabet sounds together

Other than that, I also started to use book (which actually more on sight reading) for Adam. Well, its surprising me on how fast he able to read book now. And most important thing, how proud he was when he able to finish each page until the last page. Actually it's does motivate him to read more!*proud mommy* Thanks a lot ct for all of your precious knowledge. Tak tahu macamane nak explain, terhutang budi sgt =) Now I know what to do and I'm enjoying it so much. InsyaAllah will update more on next entry! See ya.
